While barbering can be a rewarding career, it can also be physically and mentally demanding. Long hours of standing, high levels of concentration, and dealing with difficult customers can lead to stress and burnout. Some barbers may quit due to these challenges, or because they want to pursue different career paths.

Barber Shops can differ from one to the next. One may offer shampoo services while another may not. Some provide additional services, such as shaving, beard and mustache grooming, hairpiece fittings, facials, hair coloring, highlights, and other related services such as curling hair.

The first barbering services were performed by Egyptians in 5000 BC with instruments they had made from oyster shells or sharpened flint. In ancient Egyptian culture, barbers were highly respected individuals. Priests and men of medicine are the earliest recorded examples of barbers.
